The book cover for J.K Rowling’s first non-Harry Potter related novel,The Casual Vacancy, was released on Tuesday. The Casual Vacancy hits bookstores on September 27, 2012. According to the Little, Brown Book Group (The Casual Vacancy’s publishers), the book will consist of 512 pages and intended for adult audiences. The Little, Brown Book Group website also revealed this plot summary:

“When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.

Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.

Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.

And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

A big novel about a small town, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults. It is the work of a storyteller like no other.”

As many entertainment sites have addressed, the cover of The Casual Vacancy is very minimalistic, not unlike the covers of other novels like The Curious Incident of The Dog Of The Night-Time by Mark Haddon, The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach, and The Marriage Plot by Jeffery Eugenides.

Personally, the cover and plot does not appeal to me, but it’s J.K Rowling, so I’ll happily buy it once it’s released. If you can’t wait to buy the book then you can preorder it on amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com

In casting news, one of Hollywood’s most promising young stars allegedly has been casted as Johanna Mason in the upcoming Hunger Games movies. Jena Malone is the rumored new cast member of the Hunger Games  movies. People may remember her for starring in cult favorites like Saved, Donnie Darko, and Into the Wild. This is an unexpected casting decision for both Jena and the Hunger Games’ production team.  The casting choice may surprise many because the Johanna role, or any role for Hunger Games, is highly sought after, and some fans were expecting an actress with a bigger fanbase to receive the role.  Others might be surprised Jena took on such a big Hollywood movie; though she has done blockbuster films before, this will probably be her biggest grossing film.

Jena Malone is such a good actress we’re sure she’ll do a fantastic job as Johanna.  So some may not like this decision, but we’re one hundred percent backing this one. We can’t wait for the next installment of Hunger Games and to see who’ll play Finnick Odair. What do you guys think about the casting news? Are you looking forward to seeing Jena Malone as Johanna? Who should get the role of Finnick Odair?
